River Café is under new ownership!

Santa Cruz, CA

The Beginning

2018

Every culture has their own idea of a dumpling. In this case, in Tibet, Momo is a popular dish for special events, guests, and occasions. Every Tibetan family has a slightly different recipe, and at River Café we are invited to Rabgee’s family table.

Rabgee came to America in ‘08, as a dream country. He got the opportunity to come to America, and worked multiple jobs, supporting both himself in the States and family back home in Tibet. In 2018 he was able to get his own food truck, and named it Nomad Momo.

What People Are Saying

“The dumplings are made to order (this seems like a no brainer thing, but believe me not all food trucks are equal in this regard.) when ordered, and they are dang near perfect.”

— Steven W.

“I was never super thrilled about food in SC - I only had a small handful of places I went back to repeatedly - but I'm so glad a friend told me about Nomad Momo in the River Cafe space. I think I stopped in every week for a month or two before I moved away. I'll be back every time I'm in town!”

The Venture

2020

Rabgee loved the food truck life, and received a lot of positive feedback. He dreamed of opening up his own little spot to serve his regulars on the daily. And when he found out that River Café was looking for new ownership, he had to jump on it!

Of course, we all know 2020 as the year of the pandemic. Rabgee had to work 7 days a week just to stay open. Thanks to the support of the local community, Rabgee is still open today. And for that, he’s so grateful!

What People Are Saying

“Hidden gem! I got the steamed beef momos (under the owner’s recommendation) and pork momos…. They do not disappoint! Love their homemade hot sauce as well. The Owner is friendly!”

— J

“One of the best places to eat in Santa Cruz. Vegan options (the momos are the best!) Beautiful outdoor seating, and the kindest staff and owner. :)”
